Janna Malamud Smith, daughter of the writer Bernard Malamud, is publishing My Father Is a Book (Houghton Mifflin), a memoir of her father, in which she reveals that he had an extramarital affair with one of his Bennington College students in the early 60's.
The new book came as a surprise from Smith, who in 1997, published a book called Private Matters in which she argued for the importance of privacy in a culture of talk shows and tabloid journalism.
Dinitia Smith writes more about the book, its author, and the Malamud family in her New York Times article Bernard Malamud's Daughter Finally Tells His Secrets.
