Last year, I registered my very first domain and had it hosted at a local service provider. I paid only for 6 months of hosting, as I wasn't quite sure if their web hosting service would be just as good as the premium web hosting services out there. As it turned out, I had a very disappointing 6 months with my web host. My subscription ends next month so I'm currently scouring the Web for good reviews of web hosts.
If you're planning on a getting your own domain, consider using a comprehensive guide on web hosting. By doing this, you will be able to determine which host is best suited for the type of website you plan to set up. For example, if you're putting up a blog about writing, you might want to consider the disk space the web host has to offer. If you're on a budget, you can also opt for web hosting that includes free domain registration and setup.
When putting up a website, registering a domain is the easy part. Getting a good host is something that you may need to work on thoroughly. What I've learned is that you must keep in mind the affordability, reliability, uptime and tech support of a particular web hosting site before availing their services.
